(This post was written prior to 2016, in a blog entitled “Jubal’s Jottings.”)
I had the pleasure of attending a college football game last weekend…my alma mater versus the home team! Needless to say, my visiting team attire stood out in the surrounding crowd! Since “my” team ended up winning, my comments as the game progressed became rather subdued! There were a few home team rowdies around that I didn’t want to become too fired up! As the outcome of the game became clear, the grumbling home team fans began to trickle – then stream – out of the stadium! They weren’t too pleased with the results of the event, for sure! That was fine by me – it left fewer cars in the parking lot for those of us who were staying to the end!
The next morning I went to church. I thought briefly about what it would feel like if the “home team” crowd at church didn’t like the outcome of the service. Maybe the preaching…or the music…or the kids in the service who were a little rowdy. I was thankful that the One we were there to honor – God Himself – would not disappoint us with the outcome, so there would never be a reason to walk out early or give up! No fair weather fans with God…winning team fans hang in there until the end!
So Jubal, too bad you didn’t know about football. You could have created some musical instruments to enhance the half-time show!
