Christmastime…In the Middle of the Summer?

(This post was written prior to 2016, in a blog entitled “Jubal’s Jottings.”)

“It’s Christmastime in the city.” Wait a second…why would I be singing a Christmas song in the middle of the summer? Thank you for asking. I am constantly amazed at the many worship planners who wait until sometime near November to start thinking about the Christmas season. Really, they do! I am convinced that they can’t possibly do justice to such an important time of the Christian church calendar…let alone Advent and Epiphany…but that’s what they do. So, if you’re a worship planner, and you haven’t had some serious discussions about your fall and Advent/Christmas/Epiphany seasons, then this is your little bell going off to say, “You’re late!”

I know all worship planners want to do the best for the Christmas season. I just KNOW that the best means giving it some time to prayerfully percolate. So, get some key people together…start brainstorming…be in prayer together…do some study about the season. Glorify the Savior who came, and Who is coming again! Planning sooner will make for better worship later.

Jubal, you really missed out on Christmas, didn’t you? Thanks for the instruments you created to help us celebrate!
